How GPA Is Calculated
GPA is commonly calculated using grade points weighted by the credit hours of each course.
GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours
Quality points are calculated by multiplying the grade point for a course by its credit hours.
Example
If a student receives a 4.0 grade point in a 3-credit course, the course contributes 12 quality points.
4.0 × 3 = 12 quality points
